June 2022 Family Newsletter
Dear Families,
It’s hard to believe the end of the year has arrived! This year, we will be mailing the fourth quarter report cards along with the end-year iReady reading and math assessment reports to all families. Class placements for the 2022-2023 will be noted in the comments section of the final report card. In the fall, Oregon Statewide Assessment System (OSAS) reports will be sent home with fourth through sixth grade students. This assessment was given in the spring of 2022 to students in grades three through six.
Lost and Found
The lost and found at HPE is still overflowing! Items will be outside the main entrance Wednesday, June 1 and Wednesday, June 8, from 12:30-3:30 p.m. Please stop by to peruse the lost and found rack and claim any missing items. Items are added to the rack daily. Items not claimed at the end of the school year will be donated.
Library Books
All library books were due Friday, May 27. Beginning this week, library notices will be sent home with students indicating all items not yet returned. Please return all library books no later than the last day of school.
Rainier Virtual Academy (K-6), 2022-2023
We have recently evaluated the programs we offer and look forward to focusing on in-person instruction for the 2022-2023 school year. Rainier Virtual Academy will no longer be a program offered for elementary students (K-6) in Rainier School District #13 beginning next school year.
Rainier Summer Cafe` (Summer Meals Program)

Kindercamp, August 2022
Hudson Park Elementary is dedicated to providing support to children and families in order to ease the transition to kindergarten. We will be offering a free Kindercamp program this August for 40 students. Kindercamp will be held at Hudson Park Elementary August 8-11 and 15-18 from 8:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. each day (Monday-Thursday only). Transportation, breakfast, and lunch will be provided. A registration link will be published on our district website and school Facebook page soon.
Summer School/Summer Camps, 2022
Rainier School District Summer School and Summer Camps plans are in process. Stay tuned for details. Information will be shared via our district website, school Facebook page, and robomessage.
Summer Slide
To avoid losing achievement gains made in the previous school year, also known as the “summer slide,” it is important for students to stay engaged in reading and learning over the summer. Start with a Book is a website offering a one-stop shop for book ideas and other learning resources for a summer of reading and active learning.
Lunch and Breakfast Changes, 2022-2023
Planning is in the works for next school year. With meal waivers expiring, we will be charging for meals next year. If you have turned in an application for this year, you will continue to receive free meals for the first 30 days of next school year. Use this link to apply for free meals starting July 1. Also, families that qualify for SNAP benefits automatically qualify for free meals in Oregon, so for example, a family of four with an annual income of $53,004 per year will qualify for SNAP. Go to this link to learn more about SNAP benefits and how to apply.
In 2019, Oregon Legislature passed the Student Success Act in School Nutrition Programs, which qualifies even more students for free meals. Check out the Oregon Expanded Income Guidelines to see if you qualify. If you qualify, be sure to apply for free meals.
